In dry needling we use very fine needles which are inserted into specific soft tissue to relieve tightness and pain. This treatment works on the sympathetic nervous system to reduce muscle tension and release endorphins (the body’s natural pain relievers). It can be used to treat pain all over the body especially neck tightness, lumbar pain and buttock pain. Dry needling also assists with the release of muscles without the residual pain sometimes left following deep tissue massage.
”The evidence base for acupuncture or dry needling in various areas of physiotherapy, has increased substantially over the past decade. In particular, research has grown to provide evidence-based support in the treatment of acute and chronic back pain, chronic neck pain, tension type and migraine headaches, pelvic girdle pain, knee osteoarthritis, lateral elbow pain and shoulder conditions.” (Australian Physiotherapy Association http://www.physiotherapy.asn.au/). All of our physiotherapists are trained in dry needling and there is no additional cost for this treatment.
